Wanderers officials to attend CAF draw

Mighty Wanderers have underscored their seriousness in the CAF Confederation Cup participation by sending a delegation to attend the competition’s draw set for this afternoon in Tanzania.

Wanderers chief executive officer Panganeni Ndovi in an interview yesterday confirmed the development.

He said: “For a club that is dreaming big, it is crucial to participate throughout the entire process, not just in the matches, but also in the strategic and administrative engagements that surround elite competitions.

“Wanderers have decided to lead the way because we understand that growth doesn’t happen in isolation.”

Ndovi said the decision to witness the draw is beyond just knowing their opponents in the competition.

He said: “By actively participating, we are leveraging the opportunity to network with established teams, learn best practices, and build partnerships that can elevate our standards both on and off the pitch. It’s about positioning ourselves within the ecosystem of continental football, not as spectators, but as serious players.

“This is important because our goal is not just to participate, but to build sustainably and transform Wanderers into a true powerhouse in Malawi and within the region. That requires vision, consistency, and the willingness to lead from the front.”

Football Association of Malawi (FAM) competitions and communications director Gomezgani Zakazaka confirmed receiving a request from Wanderers to attend the draw.

He said: “Wanderers have asked us to facilitate accreditation for three people at the draw. I think this is the first time ever for a Malawian club’s officials to attend a CAF tourney.”
